A small bottega, and a lot of clay
Olla began in 2019 with one stubborn idea: that a hookah could be made the way Italy has made ceramics for centuries — thrown on a wheel, painted by hand, fired one piece at a time.
Our story
Since 2019It started on a trip. Our founder was travelling — new places, new traditions — and smoking hookah in every country she passed through, looking at the shapes, the designs, the way each culture had made the object its own. In a lounge in Bosnia and Herzegovina the thought finally landed: Italy, of all places, had never really made one.
Not a factory version. An Italian one, in clay, ceramic and terracotta — the materials this country has worked for centuries, chosen for the reasons potters have always chosen them. They are hard. They take heat without flinching. They hold, they seal, and they let a hand leave a mark.
We found Massimiliano in a workshop outside Florence, told him the idea and started. The first attempts were rough. We kept going until they were not, then gave the shapes names borrowed from Italian history, art and mythology, because a piece made this way deserves more than a product code.
Today Olla is a small studio in Florence, still throwing and painting by hand. In Italy every ceramist has a technique handed down inside the family, and every workshop has a style you can recognise across a room. That is rather the point — and it is why no two Olla are ever quite the same.

White clay and terracotta
Chosen for how they behave under a coal: hard, tolerant of high temperatures, slow to release the heat they hold.
Painted freehand
Every motif is drawn by hand in the Italian maiolica tradition, then glazed and fired. The brush decides, not a transfer.

Our Story
Our story begins in 2019, when a girl were travelling the world, discovering new places, cultures and traditions.
During our trips, she loved smoking hookahs in different countries, admiring different shisha designs and shapes, and trying different tobacco tastes depending on the country we were visiting.
On a trip to Bosnia Herzegovina she stopped by a Shisha Lounge Bar and she started thinking about how underdeveloped was the Hookah industry in Italy.
That was the moment from which we found the inspiration and when the idea of starting our business came up.
Our founder had the brilliant idea of creating handcrafted hookahs and related items made of clay, ceramic and terracotta totally made in Italy.
You might wonder yourself “Why use those materials to create bowls and hookahs?”.
Clay, ceramic and terracotta are materials which have been part of Italian tradition and culture for centuries, they are known and widely used thanks to their properties like hardness, resistance to high temperatures, retention, impermeability, versatility, and natural materials used in their manufacturing process.
In Italy, each Ceramist has his own te technique, which is usually handed down to next generations within the family, and each craft shop is characterized by a distinctive and exclusive style.
We came across Massimiliano, who would have become our Master Craftsman, we proposed our idea and started working on it together.
After several trials, we managed to obtain a discrete output.
At this point, with the aim of creating something unique, we decided to give an Italian touch to what was coming along.
That’s why we started designing and naming our creations getting inspired by history, art, culture and mythology.
These things are very important and entrenched in our beautiful country. As the days went by, we perfected and finalized our manufacturing technique and…

In 2019, an adventure began with a young woman's journey across the world. She discovered new places and experienced different cultures. One of her favorite things to do was to try hookahs in each country she visited. She loved seeing the various designs and tasting the unique flavors of tobacco that each place offered.
While visiting Bosnia Herzegovina, she realized something important while relaxing in a Shisha Lounge Bar. She noticed that back in Italy, her home country, the hookah experience wasn't as developed or diverse. This sparked a brilliant idea in her mind – to start a business creating hookahs and accessories in Italy.

She decided to use traditional Italian materials like clay, ceramic, and terracotta for making these hookahs. These materials have been part of Italian culture for centuries, known for their durability, heat resistance, and natural qualities. In Italy, the art of crafting with these materials is often passed down through generations. Each craftsman has unique techniques, making each creation special.
She teamed up with Massimiliano, a talented ceramist, and together they began designing unique hookahs. After several attempts, they perfected their craft. Inspired by Italy's rich history, art, culture, and mythology, they gave each product a distinct Italian touch.
Now, they have established their business in the beautiful city of Florence. They're dedicated to improving and expanding their offerings, ensuring each product not only serves its purpose but also reflects the art, beauty, history, and culture of Italy.
Lucrezia Conti-Founder
Half Italian and half Croatian, since I was a teenager I’ve always been creative an passionate about travel, different cultures and internationality, that’s why I’ve always travelled a lot around the world.
During my trips, I loved smoking hookahs in different countries, admiring different designs, shapes and trying different tobacco tastes.
After getting my Master’s degree in International law, I realized I wanted to combine my passion for internationality with my creativity, and find a path which would have made me happy.
By combining these two things with my enthusiasm for smoking hookahs, I had the idea of creating something unique: handcrafted hookahs and related items with an Italian touch!
Exploiting the fact that Hookah industry is not developed and widespread in Italy, I decided to found Zing Shisha in June and Olla Bowls in December 2019.
We started producing our collections in Florence, creating products which embody art, beauty, history and quality thanks also to our Master Craftsman who is able to turn our design-related ideas into realty, creating and decoring each piece in an extraordinary way.
I spend a lot of time designing new products in order to satisfy the most our customers’ needs.
Love and passion for my job are the main elements which encourage me to keep creating high-quality and beautiful products, and work very hard to improve and grow our business every day.

This is just the beginning of their journey, and they are excited to continue growing and sharing their unique, Italian-crafted hookahs with the world.
